Course Content

General principles of regional anaesthesia
This session provides an overview of regional anaesthesia, including the physics of ultrasound, how to optimise ultrasound images, and the equipment and techniques required to safely perform peripheral nerve blocks.

Regional anaesthesia of the head and neck
This session will review regional anaesthesia of the head and neck and its clinical applications to enable safe practice of this technique.

Neuraxial blockade
This session provides an overview of performing a spinal, epidural and combined spinal epidural (CSE) technique, including complications and troubleshooting.

Regional anaesthesia of the upper limb
This session will review regional anaesthesia of the upper limb and its clinical applications to enable safe practice of this technique.

Ultrasound-guided lower limb peripheral nerve blocks
This session will provide an overview of the commonly performed lower limb nerve blocks including fascia iliaca, femoral nerve, adductor canal, popliteal sciatic nerve and ankle blocks. It will explore each of these blocks in detail including the relevant anatomy, clinical indications and technique for performing them.

Regional anaesthesia of the abdomen
This session examines the blocks of the abdomen including rectus sheath block, transversus abdominus plane (TAP) block, penile and pudendal blocks, ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric blocks. The session will explore the indications, contraindications and complications, briefly explore the anatomy pertinent to this region and describes the relevant ultrasound guided technique for each block.

Intravenous Regional Anaesthesia
This session will review intravenous regional anaesthesia and its clinical applications to enable safe practice of this technique.
